A life out of the ordinary: painter / cardiologist Menno Baars. Menno Baars made it clear from the start in 1995 that nothing would prevent him from following his own path. He dedicated himselve to art and medicine. He is known for his figurative works in which immediacy and vitality matter more than pure or impure origins and probable outcomes. Strongly influenced by Van Gogh, the CoBrA movement and the great American Abstract Expressionism his oils and acrylics are very characterising but also very Dutch with lots of bravery and rudeness. Usually large abstract-figurative paintings with harsh lines of colored paint, sometimes directly out of the can. A primitive strength, a raging energy, which seems originate from the paddle of time. He describes himself as a gesturalist: representing his subject with brush and knife work, sculpturally describing the space created between the artist and the picture surface. Adamantly unsentimental about the subjects. In his recent work the movement of living as it were still more "has been caught" and splashes the vitality of canvas. Very instinctive, wildly and unbridled Baars paints his canvasses. He is throwing paint, they say. But in reality he left little to the occasional impact. The color, the form and therefore the contents of his work are already in his head, in his spirit and behind every screen is an own world full imagination. His work is like a personal liberation from the shackles of social order. It contributes to the greatest dynamics and creativity for winning out over all forms of regression and filled with optimism.
